In a heated exchange on social media, popular singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has lashed out at All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe over his comments on the recent split of the music duo P-Square.

Following the confirmation of P-Square’s breakup, barely three years after their reunion in 2021, Joe Igbokwe took to his Facebook page to express his disappointment in the twin brothers, Paul and Peter Okoye. Igbokwe criticized their inability to manage their issues, personal lives, and success, stating that it was a shame and a display of “success without brains.”

Igbokwe’s comments didn’t sit well with Paul Okoye, who promptly responded on his Instagram page. Paul Okoye fired back at Igbokwe, calling him an “elder wey mumu” (a foolish elder) and telling him to focus on the country that he and his party had “put mouth scatter” (disrupted). Paul Okoye also reminded Igbokwe that people are hungry, implying that the APC chieftain should prioritize addressing the hardships faced by Nigerians.

The P-Square Breakup

P-Square, one of Nigeria’s most popular music groups, has been plagued by internal conflicts since their inception. The duo, consisting of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, achieved international success with hit songs like “Do Me,” “Chop My Money,” and “Personally.” However, their professional and personal relationship has been marred by disagreements and tension.

The first major split occurred in 2016, when the brothers parted ways over a dispute involving their older brother Jude Okoye, who was also their manager. This led to a five-year hiatus, during which both singers pursued solo careers. In 2021, they reconciled and reunited for a comeback performance, but their recent split has dashed hopes of a lasting reunion.

The current breakup has been attributed to a number of factors, including business disagreements, personal conflicts, and accusations of betrayal. Paul Okoye has hinted that Peter Okoye was responsible for reporting him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which fueled further tension and ultimately led to the separation.

The Role of Politics and Social Commentary

Joe Igbokwe’s comments on P-Square’s split have sparked a debate about the intersection of entertainment and politics in Nigeria. Igbokwe, known for his outspoken views and affiliation with the ruling APC, is a controversial figure who has often faced criticism for his pronouncements. His decision to weigh in on the P-Square breakup, while seemingly intended to offer advice and promote reconciliation, has been perceived by some as an attempt to capitalize on the situation for political gain.

Paul Okoye’s response to Igbokwe’s comments, however, is significant for its directness and its focus on the political and economic realities facing Nigerians. By reminding Igbokwe of the country’s problems and the suffering of its people, Okoye subtly criticizes the APC’s perceived failure to address critical issues and prioritize the well-being of its citizens. This exchange reflects the growing disillusionment and frustration with political leadership in Nigeria.

A Reflection of the Nigerian Landscape

The exchange between Paul Okoye and Joe Igbokwe highlights the complex social and political landscape of Nigeria. The P-Square breakup is a microcosm of the broader conflicts and divisions that plague the country, including political rivalry, economic hardship, and social inequalities. The case also raises questions about the role of public figures and the appropriate boundaries for commentary, particularly on personal matters.

The exchange between Paul Okoye and Joe Igbokwe, while seemingly focused on the P-Square split, carries larger implications about the state of Nigeria and its leadership. As the fallout from the breakup continues, fans and observers await further developments and hope for a resolution to the brothers’ differences.
