The internet's favorite couple, Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan, have been the subject of breakup rumors after gossip site DeuxMoi posted about the pair potentially going their separate ways. However, Keoghan appears to have shut down any speculation by liking Carpenter's latest Instagram post.
The celebrity gossip account, DeuxMoi, posted Friday, August 16, sharing an anonymous message claiming to reveal the news of a split between the Espresso singer and Saltburn star. The message read, "Sabrina and Barry broke up."
However, just two hours later, Barry seemingly quashed any concerns by liking a post of the Espresso singer, 25, in lingerie. The Irish actor was first linked to the American singer in December 2023 when they were papped out for dinner together in Los Angeles.
Carpenter posted a stunning photo in blue lingerie, teasing the release of her album Short n’ Sweet. The image showed her kneeling in blue lingerie for the cover of her new Short n’ Sweet Bonus Track LP. Keoghan’s like is one of over two million on the post. Carpenter also still has a clip from her music video for “Please Please Please” pinned to the top of her account—the video that stars Keoghan as her love interest.
The couple made their first official appearance at the Grammys afterparty hosted by W Magazine, according to E! News, but had reportedly been seeing each other as far back as the fall. They both attended Paris Fashion Week in September 2023 and crossed paths at a Givenchy show. They have since made some bigger appearances, like at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty and in Carpenter’s iconic video, but they do tend to make infrequent appearances in public together.
The romance rumours came months after his reported split from Scottish dental nurse Alyson, who is the mother of his one-year-old son Brando. Alyson’s mother Kathy told MailOnline that Barry gave her the “heads up” about his new relationship before it hit headlines. "They’re on talking terms and need to be for wee Brando,” she said. "Barry had the decency to give Alyson the heads up about his new girlfriend and we can’t fault him for that. Alyson is now focusing on herself and her son." When asked why Alyson and Barry parted ways, she added: “I’m not getting into that.”
Barry confirmed his split from Alyson for the first time during an interview with British GQ in January 2024 but didn’t go into the details of their breakup. Instead, the Dublin native simply said she’s an “incredible mother” to their son Brando.
Speaking about fatherhood, the 31-year-old confessed: “I feel a responsibility. I feel an enormous amount of pressure, which is good. And I can’t get the little boy off my mind.” “It’s beautiful. Y’know, it’s crazy, but when he looks at you, you feel like the most important person in the world. That’s the effect he has on me. He smiles at you and you’re like, ‘Wow. You’re smiling.”
Keoghan has been seen at several of Carpenter’s shows, including when she opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore and when she performed at Coachella in April. For her birthday this spring, a source said he threw her a party at DUMBO House in Brooklyn.
This isn't the first time Keoghan has shown his excitement for his girlfriend's music career. In addition to filming Carpenter, 25, during her Coachella Music and Arts Festival set in April, the actor also starred in her “Please, Please, Please” music video.
“He loved the song. He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that,” Carpenter told Variety in an interview earlier this month. “I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”
While summer is coming to an end, Carpenter’s career remains on fire. In addition to releasing a new album and a sweet smoothie with Erewhon, the “Espresso” singer will kick off the Short N’ Sweet tour in Columbus, Ohio, on September 23.
As for Keoghan, he’s preparing for the release of his next movie, titled Bring Them Down. The film centers around the escalating tensions of two farming families in the west of Ireland and is expected to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
While the couple has yet to publicly address the rumors, Keoghan's latest Instagram activity suggests they are still going strong. We'll have to wait and see if the duo decides to confirm or deny the speculation, but for now, it seems fans can breathe easy knowing that their favorite pair might still be together.
