For almost five decades fans of Belinda Carlisle have been singing and dancing to the countless number of hit songs she's released. Whether it be as lead singer of iconic rock band, The Go-Gos, or with her stellar solo career which has seen her tour multiple times all over the world, the 66-year-old's music is infectious and timeless.

While her time in the spotlight has had its ups and downs, Belinda is showing no sign of slowing anytime soon and she told Today she's had a "very rich and varied career".

"I started out in the punk rock scene in Los Angeles and I had green hair and everything was pierced and then I ended up in The Go-Go's and then my solo career," she said.

Like so many rock stars in the LA music scene of the '80s and early '90s, Belinda spent years involved in drugs and alcohol.

Sobriety: A Turning Point

But marking almost two decades of sobriety, Belinda is fine leaving those wild days in her past.

"I had a good run from age 17 to 47, but I mean, it just got to the point where it wasn't sustainable anymore and I needed to make some changes," she said. "So I did and that was in 2005, so it's almost 20 years of sobriety." This candid revelation sheds light on the struggles that many artists face, highlighting the importance of seeking support and prioritizing well-being.

A Global Nomad

Belinda's love of travel has seen her family live in eight different countries over the years, now residing in Mexico City with her husband, film producer Morgan Mason. This global experience has undoubtedly shaped her artistic perspective and enriched her personal life, contributing to her multi-faceted career journey.

The Decades Tour: Back in Australia

And next month, that love of travel will be bringing her The Decades Tour Down Under to Aussie audiences.

"It was twice cancelled because of COVID and last year, it was cancelled because of my knee, but I'm all good to go this time and I'm really excited about it." This resilience and determination are inspiring, demonstrating Belinda's dedication to her fans and her passion for performing despite the challenges she's faced.
