Sally Field has been a celebrity for over 50 years, and the Oscar-winning actress is still making headlines—sometimes just for something as simple as walking her dog.
In photos obtained by Hello!, the 77-year-old pet owner took her little dog Dash out for a stroll in Los Angeles. Field was dressed appropriately for the occasion, in white capri pants, a blue-and-white striped shirt, white sneakers, and a blue hat with a wide brim to keep the sun off her face.
This isn't the only time the Steel Magnolias star has been in the news recently. After a bit of a hiatus, Field returned to social media last month to show her support for Kamala Harris, posting two photos of herself holding Dash on her lap.
"I’ve not been on social media. Not since it became public toilet paper for our former crook of a President. But 'hope is making a comeback.' So here I am. This is me. And this is my dog, Dash. Buckle up," Field wrote in her caption.
The next day, Harris posted a photo of herself sitting in front of a TV playing the Democratic National Convention.
"Hope is here. Right in the room with me and my 18-year-old newly registered to vote grandson," Field wrote in her caption. "I’m screaming from the highest mountain top I can find. Vote for our country, our children and grandchildren. Vote for the earth and women and human rights. Vote for democracy. Vote for @kamalaharris and @timwalz. Please dear God. (And I’ll be your best friend.)"
Whether you know her from Smokey and the Bandit, Steel Magnolias or The Amazing Spiderman, there is no doubt that Sally Field is a Hollywood legend. Easily recognizable in the past for her glossy brown hair, gorgeous smile and sweet-as-pie characters, Sally remains a national treasure, and we couldn't be happier to see her out and about this week.
The star stepped out on Thursday to walk her dog, Dash, near her home in Los Angeles. She donned a striped blue and white shirt for the outing, paired with loose white shorts and crisp white sneakers. She completed the look with a blue, broad-brimmed hat and glasses around her neck on a chain.
The actress has won not one but two Academy Awards in her career, so it's fair to say she has earned a peaceful retirement. However, the 77-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down; according to Variety, she is slated to appear in the upcoming Netflix adaptation, Remarkably Bright Creatures, based on the novel by Shelby Van Pelt. According to the author's website, the story follows "a widow's unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus reluctantly residing at the local aquarium—and the truths she finally uncovers about her son's disappearance 30 years ago."
Sally has been busy not only preparing to film but also campaigning via social media for Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. Last month, she took to Instagram to encourage her followers to go out and vote, posting a carousel of pictures with a resounding message.
"I've not been on social media," she wrote in the caption. "Not since it became public toilet paper for our former crook of a President. But 'hope is making a comeback.' So here I am."
The Mrs Doubtfire actress followed that up with another Instagram post, this time featuring Sally sitting in front of the television, smiling widely at the camera as Kamala Harris speaks at the Democratic National Convention. Her grandsons are in the foreground, engrossed in the Vice President's speech, with the elder throwing his hands up in excitement.
She wrote, "Hope is here. Right in the room with me and my 18-year-old newly registered to vote grandson. I'm screaming from the highest mountain top I can find."
"Vote for @kamalaharris and @timwalz. Please dear God. [And I'll be your best friend.]"
The mother of three has also found time to call out ageism in Hollywood recently. Sally appeared on the 'Wiser Than Me' podcast, hosted by Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in March this year to call out the ageism she has experienced.
"There's just so few real stories written about women of any age, but certainly, certainly as you get older, it gets less and less and less and less and less," she said.
"And it's usually women who are looking for a man. There are so many other stories you could have told."
The star, best known for her roles in some of the biggest films of the 90s, looked relaxed near her LA home.
Keeping herself protected from the heat in a large blue hat, Sally kept her cockapoo on a leash as they went for a stroll.
Sally kept things cosy by completing her look in a pair of white plimsoll pumps.
The actress has been in dozens of era-defining films – from 1977's Smokey and The Bandit alongside Burt Reynolds, through to playing Aunt May in The Amazing Spiderman in 2012 with Andrew Garfield.
But one of the standouts is Mrs Doubtfire, where she played Robin Williams' estranged wife and mother to his three children.
In the film, as the pair navigate their divorce, Miranda (Field) moves on from Daniel (Williams) with the hunky Stuart (Pierce Brosnan).
Desperate for more time with his family, Daniel dons prosthetics and make-up to become their Scottish nanny, Mrs Doubtfire.
Sally is a double Oscar-winner, having been nominated three times.
Her first win was in 1980's Norma Rae, where she won actress in a leading role.
Her second followed five years later in the same category with 1985's Places In The Heart.
Her third nomination, which she did not win, was for playing Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln in 2013.
Sally also starred in Forrest Gump, playing Tom Hanks' elderly and beloved Mama, who does whatever it takes to make her son feel loved and get ahead in life.
In more recent years, Sally continues to act, though has spent more time in comedic roles like 80 For Brady alongside Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin.
She also broke hearts in Sky's Spoiler Alert, which starred Jim Parsons and Ben Aldridge as a gay couple whose relationship hits a difficult spot when one of them falls sick.
Sally is next is slated to appear in Remarkably Bright Creatures, a Netflix film based on the novel by Shelby Van Pelt. She is reported to be leading the cast as Tova Sullivan, a woman who works as a cleaning lady in an aquarium after the death of her husband, and is still distraught over the mysterious loss of her son when he was just 18.
It's not yet been confirmed when the film will be released.
