Science Week, the annual week-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) will take place across Ireland from the 10-17 November. This year, Science Week will explore the theme of Regeneration.
Science Week is harnessing the power of regeneration and calling on the people of Wexford to celebrate our innate ability to reinvent, rejuvenate and regenerate. With hundreds of events taking place nationwide, there is something for everyone – whether you’re passionate about protecting our environment, biodiversity, our future health, or using technology like generative AI in our everyday lives.
Regeneration is happening all around us and Science Week is the chance to explore the endless opportunities for the future, and how the decisions we make today will greatly impact future generations. Some events taking place as part of the Wexford Science Festival not to be missed include:
Dr Ruth Freeman, Director of Science for Society, Research Ireland, said: “Regeneration is happening all around us and touches every part of our lives - from how we safeguard our health, to the technology we use, and how we care for our planet. Science Week is a chance to show people what is possible when we use our collective strengths to build a brighter, more sustainable future. This Science Week, there is something for all generations, and I would encourage everyone in Wexford to get involved, whether by attending local events, engaging online, or sharing experiences with friends and family.”
With fourteen festivals taking place across the country, including Wexford Science Festival, Science Circus by the Sea Festival, Southeast Science Festival, Cork Space Fest, Kerry Science Festival, and “C’mere Till I Tell Ye” Dublin STEM Festival, there is something for all ages and interests.

The Science Circus by the Sea Festival will take place in Mayo as part of Science Week.

Desert Bloom: An Interactive Show for Little Ones
This event is perfect for very young children and is a charming, relaxed and interactive performance that brings the lifecycle of a special flower from the Atacama Desert in Chile, South America to life. Using dance, storytelling and puppetry of the insects from the region, Angelica Santander will make this tale come alive!
StrongWomen: Inspiring Show About the Power of Teamwork and Science
StrongWomen Aoife and Maria will reveal the scientific secrets behind their astounding tricks. The event involves a fun, lively and fast-paced family circus performance, where you will find out how jugglers, acrobats and hula hoop artists use science to create their amazing acts. Don't miss this inspiring show about the power of teamwork, science and strong, brilliant women. There will be a short post-show discussion about girls and women in science with the performers and women in STEM.
What Stuff Does: Unpacking the Mechanics of Juggling
This event involves comedy and incredible circus skills, with phenomenal performer and research scientist Robin Dale unpacking the mechanics of juggling using flying ping pong bats, disobedient buckets of water and a wrestling match with a flipchart. Get ready to be amazed by this part TED talk, part stand-up comedy, part mesmerising circus act!

Conversation with Ella McSweeney
This event, taking place at TUS Thurles, will be an hour-long conversation with Ella McSweeney, food and farming journalist. The audience will have the opportunity to listen to her stories and reflections on farming and environmental issues. The hour will end with a question and answer session.
Secrets of Superhero Science
At Thurles Library, there is an event called 'Secrets of Superhero Science' for children. This event takes place from 11am to 12:30pm. In this event, kids will discover the incredible superpowers of superheroes and learn about the real-world science behind them. For example, they will learn about the science of Supergirl lifting trains and aeroplanes, Tony Stark flying in the Iron Man suit, Spider-Man climbing walls and spinning webs, and Sue Storm of the Fantastic Four being invisible!
