A chilling video captures the moment a surfer encounters a dead body off the coast of the Greek island of Kos. The footage shows the surfer, Dionisis Baltsis, kite surfing near Lambi Beach when he makes the grim discovery just feet from the shore, while tourists looked on in shock.

The video shows the man kite surfing as he makes the grim discovery just a few feet from the beach of Lambi in Kos where shocked tourists watched on.

The Greek Coast Guard was called and shortly arrived at the scene alongside an ambulance.

Baltsis, who was on the water with a friend, described the body as being clothed in typical surf attire, including a lycra T-shirt and quick-drying pants. He noted that the man, who appeared to be a seasoned water sports enthusiast, had likely been in the water for several days.

The Greek Coast Guard was called and shortly arrived at the scene alongside an ambulance.

The body has not been identified yet while there has not been anyone reported missing from the island.

The Coast estimates the man has been in the water for over a week.

The surfer who found the body, Dionysis Baltsis spoke to Greek broadcaster Mega about the horrific moment he saw the body floating. He said: "He was white and bald and wearing clothes that we surfers wear, that is, a lycra T-shirt and quick-drying pants, he did not appear to be an immigrant. He was definitely a man who knew the sea, and did some kind of water sports."

He was kitesurfing in Lambi with his friend on Sunday afternoon when he saw the body in the water.

The body, which has not yet been identified, was found unusually close to the shore, around 100 meters from the beach. Authorities estimate the body has been in the water for over a week.

Baltsis said he also pointed out to an army post in the area that there's a body in the sea. He added: "The body was slowly coming out because the water was shallow and clear. In other words, it came from quite high up, from Samos, the coast of Turkey, above Imia. It was shocking, it's not every day you see a dead body in the sea. We came in to do our hobby, have fun and have a good time."

Unsettling Discovery

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, as Baltsis and his friend enjoyed their kitesurfing session near Lambi Beach. As they made their way across the water, Baltsis noticed something unusual floating just a few meters from the shore. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a human body.

The Body's Appearance and Location

Baltsis described the deceased as a white, bald man who was wearing typical surfing attire: a lycra T-shirt and quick-drying pants. The man's appearance and clothing led Baltsis to believe that he was not an immigrant and was likely familiar with water sports.

The body was found remarkably close to the shore, around 100 meters from the beach, suggesting that it had not been in the water for a very long time. Authorities believe that the body had been in the water for at least a week.

Investigation and Response

The discovery of the body prompted immediate action from local authorities. The Greek Coast Guard, along with an ambulance, was called to the scene. The body was retrieved and transported to the nearest morgue for identification.

The Coast Guard has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death. Authorities are currently reviewing the area where the body was found, interviewing potential witnesses, and attempting to identify the deceased. They are also investigating whether there have been any reports of missing persons in the region.

A Tragic Reminder of the Ocean's Power

The discovery of the body serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of the sea, even in seemingly tranquil waters. This incident underscores the importance of caution and preparedness when engaging in water activities.

This recent incident adds to a string of tragic events involving individuals lost at sea. Recently, a British holidaymaker was found dead off a remote South African beach after struggling to stay afloat. Another tragedy involved a British teenager who vanished while swimming off the coast of the Netherlands. These events highlight the unpredictable nature of the ocean and the importance of safety measures for all water-based activities.

The Sea's Unseen Dangers

The recent incidents of death at sea, like the one in Kos and the other tragedies off the coasts of South Africa and the Netherlands, serve as stark reminders of the ocean's unpredictable nature. While the allure of the water can be tempting, these events emphasize the importance of vigilance and awareness while participating in water activities. It's crucial to be prepared, equipped with appropriate safety gear, and aware of the potential hazards that lurk beneath the surface.

It's important to remember that these are isolated incidents, but they serve as critical reminders of the ocean's power. As we enjoy the water, we must be respectful of its strength and remain vigilant to ensure our safety and the safety of those around us.
