The Réseau BIBLIO de la Côte-Nord and the Bibliothèque Louis-Ange-Santerre are hosting a two-day book sale this weekend in Sept-Îles, offering thousands of used books at discounted prices. The event, known as the Biblio-Vente, will take place at the Abris du Vieux-Quai on Saturday, September 7th, and Sunday, September 8th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Laura Boudreau, the development and communications agent for the Réseau BIBLIO de la Côte-Nord, sees this as a great opportunity for families to refresh their literary collection. She explains that every public library must cull many documents that have become less popular every year. The municipal library in Sept-Îles, for instance, manages a collection of 110,000 books and other items for lending and rentals. It renews its collection every year and must dispose of 4,000 manuscripts still in good condition this weekend.

Book Prices and Purpose

There will be a very interesting selection of used books for both young people and adults this weekend at the Abris du Vieux-Quai. Adult books and comics will be sold for $2, and children's books for $1. The money raised during the Biblio-Vente 2024 will be used to provide new animation tools for the libraries affiliated with the Réseau Biblio and the Louis-Ange-Santerre Municipal Library.

The Event's Impact on Literacy Rates

The Biblio-Vente is an important part of the Réseau BIBLIO de la Côte-Nord's mission to promote literacy in the region. Marie-Soleil Vigneault, the organization's executive director, is passionate about making books accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial means. She recognizes that the region has a relatively low literacy rate and believes that the Biblio-Vente is a valuable tool for encouraging people to read.

"It's a habit, it's a muscle," says Isabelle Désy, a teacher and mother of two children. "When you don't read often, it's hard to keep up, especially since children need incentives because today, they have so many digital offers!"

The Power of the Printed Word

Despite the competition from screens, books and their pages are still popular, judging by the many passersby who stop at the shelters of the Vieux-Quai. The organizers are hoping to establish a new record this year, especially since the event is taking place over two days this time, until Sunday afternoon.

Last year, hundreds of books were sold and around $1,000 was raised to help the Réseau BIBLIO de la Côte-Nord continue its activities. The organization is hoping to raise even more money this year, with the goal of providing even more resources to libraries in the region.

The Biblio-Vente is a great opportunity for people to find new books to read at affordable prices. It is also a great way to support the Réseau BIBLIO de la Côte-Nord and its mission to promote literacy in the region. The event is open to everyone and is a great way to spend a day out with the family.

A Legacy of Literacy

The Biblio-Vente is a testament to the enduring power of the printed word. It is a reminder that books can be a source of joy, knowledge, and inspiration for people of all ages. The event is also a celebration of the community spirit that exists in Sept-Îles, as people come together to support their local library and its mission to promote literacy.

This event is a welcome addition to the community and a great way to promote reading in the region. The Biblio-Vente is a great example of how people can come together to support a cause that they believe in. It is also a reminder of the importance of books in our lives and the impact they can have on our communities.
