A residential three-alarm fire that spread to surrounding homes and caused extensive damage in the Beaches is under investigation.

Toronto Fire Services were initially called to 69 Kippendavie Avenue in the Woodbine Avenue and Queen Street East area just after 3:30 a.m. on Friday for a two-alarm fire.

Crews arrived at a fully engulfed two-storey home, and the flames spread. The fire was later upgraded to a three-alarm residential fire.

One person was treated at the scene and was not transported to a local hospital. Neighbours tell 680News Radio that the occupants of 69 Kippendavie Avenue, a woman and two children aged 10 and 12, safely evacuated.

Fire Damage

TFS Division Commander Steve Darling said at the scene that the blaze mainly affected 69 Kippendavie Avenue and spread to the homes at 67 Kippendavie and 71 Kippendavie, which were also damaged.

Fire crews completed the searches for the other two homes, and no injuries were reported. In total, nine people were evacuated from all three homes.

Investigation

The cause of the fire is unknown. TFS crews haven’t been able to determine whether the fire alarms were working inside the homes, but that is part of the investigation.

Toronto Fire said the blaze broke out at a home on Kippendavie Avenue, near Queen Street East and Woodbine Avenue, early Friday morning. According to first-responders, Crews arrived to find a fully involved residential fire. The blaze had also spread to an electric vehicle in front of the home and two adjacent houses.

All occupants in the home of origin have been accounted for, Toronto Fire said, and no injuries were reported. Toronto Fire said it is unclear if there were people in the other affected houses. There is no word on the cause and crews remain on scene actively battling the flames.

Transit Disruptions

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) said several routes have been impacted, including 301 Queen and 501 Queen. Shuttle buses are running between Queen Street East at Kingston Road and Queen Street East at Neville Park Boulevard.

Aftermath

While the fire itself has been extinguished, the aftermath continues to unfold. Residents of the affected homes have been displaced, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and the community remains on edge. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, particularly in densely populated areas.

A Community Rallies

In the wake of this devastating fire, the Beaches community has come together in a show of solidarity and support. Neighbours have offered assistance to those displaced, and local businesses have donated supplies and services. This sense of community spirit, evident in the face of adversity, highlights the resilience of the Beaches neighbourhood.
