The 5-acre Dover estate that was the site of a tragic murder-suicide last year is now up for sale. The lavish property at 10 Wilson’s Way is on the market for $4.2 million, according to a Zillow listing posted Monday. It was previously owned by Teena and Rakesh “Rick” Kamal, who lost it in foreclosure after failing to make mortgage payments. A few days after Christmas last year, when the family was due to move out, Rick Kamal shot and killed his wife and his teenage daughter Arianna in their bedrooms, before turning the gun on himself, according to police reports.

The listing describes the Colonial-style mansion as a “perfect family home,” with luxurious amenities including a gym, sauna, home theater, and a four-car garage. The estate is “seamlessly integrated” into the “extremely desirable” neighborhood of Wilson’s Way, according to the listing. Two open houses are scheduled this weekend.

The Kamals bought the 11-bedroom, 19,000-square-foot mansion on Valentine’s Day in 2019 for $4 million. The entrance to the property was adorned with a pair of lion statues and placards bearing the family name in gold.

The property was previously assessed at $6.79 million, according to Dover town records. The mortgage on the property — a $3.8 million loan initially set to be paid in 2021 — became a major factor in Rick Kamal’s financial issues that authorities believe spiraled into the grisly murder-suicide.

Authorities who investigated the murder-suicide concluded that Rick Kamal’s wife, daughter, and extended family were not aware of the extent of his financial issues. In fact, some in his family even believed he was on the verge of buying another house, a $16.5 million lakefront property in Tennessee. The house was described as the “perfect home for entertaining” and featured a 14-seat home theater, a relaxing family room with a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, a 20x40 indoor pool, a fully-equipped gym, a sauna with a steam shower, extensive storage, and a 5,000 bottle wine cellar.

Thousands of items from the property, including furniture, oil paintings, and even a $3,400 pinball machine, were put up for auction in July, according to an online listing.

The family of three’s bodies were found inside the 11-bedroom, 12.5-bathroom estate by Rakesh’s brother Manoj. The family was scheduled for eviction from the 27-room home on the day of their deaths. Police entered the residence on Dec. 28 to respond to a 911 call and found a typed note addressed to the person who was scheduled to pick up the keys, according to the Boston Globe’s account of a 63-page police report.

“Please note,” it read. “Before entering call the Police to first check three bedrooms on the second floor. Each room will be marked by a white sheet of paper.” Police found each of the bodies behind those demarcated doors.

Rakesh Kamal, 57, fatally shot his 54-year-old wife, Teena, and 18-year-old Arianna during the horrific murder-suicide inside the sprawling Dover home on Dec. 28, 2023.

The couple appeared to have faced financial problems in recent years, according to online records viewed by The Post. The family’s sprawling mansion went into foreclosure a year before the slayings and was sold to Massachusetts-based Wilsondale Associates LLC for $3 million, according to property records obtained by The Post.

Rakesh Kamal is believed to have used a .40-caliber Glock 22 that wasn’t registered to him as the weapon was found inside the home. He had amassed massive debt from the $3.8 million mortgage and a six-figure loan from a family member and a series of poor business deals in and out of the Boston area.

The software developer had borrowed $500,000 from his brother-in-law Sandeep Bedi and “a substantial sum of money” from his brother Manoj, two separate affidavits viewed by the Boston Globe claim. Four days before her death, a fax signed by Teena Kamal was sent to Virginia-based life insurance company Genworth requesting a change to her $1.25 million life insurance policy, according to the Boston Globe.

Kamal sought to make her husband and daughter the primary while adding Rakesh’s brother, Manoj Kamal, as the contingent or backup beneficiary. Since January, Manoj Kamal and Teena’s brother, Sandeep Bedi, have been entangled in a court battle as they uncover their siblings’ dark financial past. Manoj had filed a claim with the life insurance company to collect the payout from the policy. Bedi, who is administering his sister’s estate, had “raised concerns” with the company regarding the circumstances of the deaths and the change of beneficiary form.

The listing describes the home as an “exceptional, custom-designed estate on 5 acres perfectly situated at the end of a private cul-de-sac,” while making no mention of the brutal killings. “This home is seamlessly integrated into the idyllic, manicured grounds overlooking wooded hiking paths, bridle trails, and a tranquil pond in the extremely desirable Wilsons Way neighborhood,” according to Realtor.com. The single-family, 4-car garage dwelling on a “meticulously maintained” 19,000 square feet was built in 2000 and is going for $4.2 million. At the time of the murder-suicide, the mansion was estimated to be worth $5.45 million.

Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey called the area one of the richest in the state and “a nice neighborhood, a safe community.”

The murders rocked the community, where Rick Kamal was considered to be a wealthy entrepreneur and doting father running a successful startup. Following the deaths, it was revealed Rick had filed for bankruptcy and was served with a foreclosure notice just three months earlier. Rick Kamal's younger brother, Manoj Kamal, told police he had loaned his sibling about $150,000, in roughly $5,000 increments, in the nine months before the killings. Manoj also claims his brother drained their mother's bank account. Police documents also revealed that while Teena Kamal was not fully aware of the extent of her husband's financial issues, she also felt significant pressure. Manoj Kamal said she had recently made a troubling statement about wanting 'to drive their family car off a cliff due to the recent stress they were under.' Rick Kamal's family confirmed that the veneer of perfection ran so deep even his wife and daughter had no idea they were drowning in debt.

The parents and their daughter were found dead by Manoj Kamal on December 28 - three weeks after a foreclosure notice was served on the 20,000-square-foot home.  It has since emerged that the mansion was bought with $3.8 million borrowed from the property's builder rather than a bank, with the money needing to be repaid within two years. By 2021, interest and fines had spiraled out of control and foreclosure notices were served. Even as the foreclosure was being processed, Teena Kamal was under the impression that the family was still moving forward with the purchase of a $16.5million chateau along Tennessee's Chickamauga Lake. Listing agent James Perry said that Rick Kamal had provided bank statements proving his 'ability to purchase' the property. The family toured it, with Teena Kamal even starting to buy furniture. But a contract was never signed.

The 11-bedroom, 12.5-bathroom estate is now on the market for $4.2 million. The listing highlights the home's luxurious amenities, including a gym, sauna, home theater, and four-car garage. It also emphasizes the estate's seamless integration into the “extremely desirable” neighborhood of Wilson’s Way. However, the listing makes no mention of the tragic events that unfolded within its walls. It remains to be seen if potential buyers will be deterred by the property’s dark past.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the hidden struggles that can lie beneath a seemingly perfect facade. The tragedy has left a lasting impact on the community and has raised questions about the financial pressures that can lead to such devastating outcomes. While the mansion stands as a testament to the family's former wealth, its future remains uncertain. It is a haunting reminder of a family torn apart by financial turmoil and a brutal act of violence.
