Both Gardaí and emergency services were rushed to the scene of a workplace incident on premises in Ardagh, Co. Limerick at around 1:30pm.
Two men were brought to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of injuries which are believed to be serious at this time. Gardaí notified the Health and Safety Authority.
A garda spokesperson said gardaí and emergency services attended a workplace incident on a premises in Ardagh, Co Limerick on Saturday, August 31.
“The alarm was raised at approximately 1.30pm. Two men were brought to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of injuries which are believed to be serious at this time.
“The Health and Safety Authority has been notified,” said the garda spokesperson.
The men were taken by air ambulance to Cork University Hospital. Firefighters from Newcastle West also attended the scene and assisted paramedics.
Both men are highly-respected in the local community in Ardagh.
Canon Michael Noonan, who resides in the village, said prayers will be said for their recovery at Mass this Sunday morning. He described them as “two pillars of the community” and hugely involved in the locality.
“I know them both very well. They are very well regarded, highly respected and very involved in the local community. They are in our thoughts and prayers,” said Canon Noonan, who added that they will keep praying for the recovery of two injured men.
Both men are heavily involved with St Kieran’s GAA Club. The club’s County Intermediate Hurling Championship game against Murroe Boher GAA this Sunday has been postponed and will take place at a later date.

Two men suffered serious injuries during a workplace incident on a farm in Co Limerick and are being treated in hospital, gardaí have stated.
The incident occurred yesterday (Saturday, August 31) at a farm premises in Ardagh.
Gardaí stated that the alarm was raised at 1:30p.m yesterday afternoon, and that gardaí and emergency services attended the incident.
The two men were brought to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of injuries which are believed to be serious at this time, gardaí said.
The Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
The two men, aged in their 60s and 50s, sustained head and other injuries during the workplace accident, around lunchtime, at a farm at Aradgh, in west county Limerick.
A Garda spokeswoman said that “Gardaí and emergency services attended a workplace incident on a premises in Ardagh, Co. Limerick” and that, “the Health and Safety Authority has been notified”.
The Garda spokeswoman said the mens injuries were “believed to be serious at this time”.
Two units from Newcastle West Fire and Rescue Service were also dispatched to the scene to assist ambulance personnel.
Former mayor of Limerick, Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Collins, who knows both men said: “It’s a big big shock to the local community and everyone hopes they will be well and that they will be okay in the days ahead; all we can do is wish them well.”
“They are two very well know community people, they are both very very involved in the GAA, and the community, they are very well known and very respected.”
Mr Woulfe is the current chairperson of the St Kierans GAA Club, Ardagh, and Mr Duggan is also closely associated with the club. A spokesperson for the St Kieran’s club said its “volunteer network are rallying around” both men and their families.
Prayers were being said locally that both men would recover from their injuries.
The Health and Safety Authority were contacted for comment but did not immediately respond.
