After their first day out on the traditional old links on Wednesday, the Wake Forest men's golf team leads round one of the Lyon's Links Collegiate Invitational, leading by five strokes over the field. The Demon Deacons have five individual players sitting inside of the top-10, all posting scores under par.
Playing individually, senior Collin Adams was the low Demon Deacon on the leaderboard in round one and holds a share of second place. Ending with a bogey-free back nine, Adams closed his round strong as the highest Deac on the leaderboard at 4-under-par.
After a solid first round, sophomore Kyle Haas landed himself tied for fourth place at four-under-par. After staying nearly even, the Winston-Salem turned up the heat carding four birdies betweens holes 14 to 18.
Senior Scotty Kennon and junior Jakob Melin both ended round one tied for seventh place. Kennon went bogey free until hole No. 12, while Melin went birdie-birdie-birdie after the turn both helping the Deacs maintain a five-stroke lead.
The final Deac to record an under-par score was Marshall Meisel. The senior ended round one in the top-10, sitting at tied for ninth with a score of 71 (-1).
With strong rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1), graduate student DJ Francey and freshman Jorge Hao both made their Demon Deacon debuts on Wednesday playing as individuals.
Both junior Boyd Owens and sophomore Tom Haberer currently sit in tied for 51st at five-over par, with scores not counting on the day.
The Deacs' Performance
