It’s always nice to play free video games, especially when it’s a quality RPG from a developer who, for the most part, knows how to craft immersive and fun open worlds.

When it comes to crafting open worlds, perhaps no one does it better than Bethesda whether it's The Elder Scrolls series such as Oblivion or Skyrim, and of course, the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout.

The Elder Scrolls Online was initially released in 2014 on PC, before making its way onto other platforms with the most recent being in 2021 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. When this MMORPG was originally released, it did suffer from server issues, which is understandable when you consider it can cater for hundreds of players at once.

Thankfully, however, The Elder Scrolls Online is in a much better place now offering what many players have often dreamed of, the open world of Tamriel free to explore with friends. If you’ve ever fancied seeing what all the fuss is about, you can now play The Elder Scrolls Online for free but only for a limited time.

What’s more, Bassmaster Fishing and Make Way, are also free-to-play courtesy of the Xbox Free Play Days promotion. The promotion is active now and ends late on Sunday night, 11 August 2024. You will also need at least an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription to play these games at no extra cost.

After the promotion ends, you can purchase The Elder Scrolls Online with a limited discount of 70% bringing the price down from £14.99 to just £4.49. It’s also included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost. Bassmaster Fishing is also discounted by 80% and Make Way by 40%.

The Elder Scrolls Online is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.

Free Play Days triumphantly returns once more, giving those with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or a Core subscription three free games to play over the weekend.

The three Xbox games in question aren’t about to blow your mind.

Nonetheless, they offer enough variety to suit most gamers’ tastes. Moreover, these three titles aren’t currently available via Xbox Game Pass.

Ready to see which adventures you can embark on?

Here is your selection:

We suspect you know the routine of Free Play Days by now, but just in case you have amnesia, allow us to give you a quick refresher.

Firstly, you need to be a Game Pass subscriber to try these free games; either an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate member.

And secondly, you only have until 4 August (this Sunday) to play the titles for free.

Hopefully there’s something there to tempt you.

If there isn't though, fear not, for the first wave of Xbox free games has leaked online promising something for us all to enjoy.

We’ve also been surprised by an Xbox free game we’ve all been begging for.

Microsoft might have had a troubling few weeks, but it’s trying to make up for it with its games.

Remember, the aforementioned Free Play Days titles are only available until 4 August.

Every week, Xbox Game Pass subscribers are set to receive new bonuses that they can enjoy. For Elder Scrolls fans, the newest newbie could be the one you're waiting for. Of course, you need to have an Xbox console to get the most out of it.

Whether you're a subscriber or not, here's how you can take advantage of this limited-time offer and dive into some fantastic games.

Every weekend, Xbox Game Pass Core and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers enjoy the perks of Free Play Days. This special event offers unlimited game trials, allowing you to explore as much of a game as you want within the designated time frame.

It's an excellent way for gamers to try out new titles without committing to a purchase right away. And if you find a game you love, Xbox often provides deep discounts during this period, making it easier to add the game to your collection at a reduced price.

This weekend is particularly noteworthy because Xbox is extending a special offer to all players, not just subscribers. The highlight of this week's Free Play Days is The Elder Scrolls Online, a massively popular online role-playing game, according to The Sun.

Normally, this game requires a Game Pass subscription to play due to its online features, but from Thursday, Aug. 8  until Monday, Aug. 19, it's available for free to everyone.

This 10-day trial period is an excellent opportunity for those who have been curious about the game but haven't yet committed to a subscription.

If you decide you want to continue your adventure in the world of Tamriel after the trial, you can purchase The Elder Scrolls Online for the discounted price of $5.99/£4.49-a steal compared to its usual cost.

While The Elder Scrolls Online is available to all players, Xbox Game Pass Core and Ultimate subscribers have access to even more games this weekend.

First up is Bassmaster Fishing, a realistic fishing simulator that usually retails for $39.99/£29.99. During Free Play Days, subscribers can purchase it for just $7.99/£5.99. This game offers a relaxing and immersive experience for those who enjoy the great outdoors, albeit virtually.

Another title on offer is Make Way, an indie multiplayer racing game known for its chaotic and fun gameplay. Regularly priced at $14.99/£12.99, it's on sale for $8.99/£7.79 during the event. This game is perfect for those who love fast-paced, unpredictable racing action.

Free Play Days are an excellent opportunity to try out new games without any commitment. Whether you're a casual gamer or a hardcore fan, these limited-time offers allow you to explore a variety of genres and titles. If you find a game you enjoy, make sure to take advantage of the discounts and purchase it before the weekend ends.

Both Bassmaster Fishing and Make Way are available for unlimited trial from Thursday, Aug.8 until Sunday, Aug. 11, according to Gaming Bible. However, remember that the discounted prices are only valid while Free Play Days are active. So, if you're interested in adding these games to your library, act fast and make your purchase before the weekend wraps up.

Whether you're subscribed to Xbox Game Pass or just a casual player, this week offers something for everyone. The Elder Scrolls Online's free access is a rare treat, and the additional games available for subscribers make this weekend's Free Play Days event one not to miss.

Microsoft just announced their latest Free Play Days promotion, and the three games that are currently up for grabs could not be more different from one another.

As revealed on the Xbox Wire blog, the three games on offer are Bassmaster Fishing, Make Way, and The Elder Scrolls Online.

Bassmaster Fishing and Make Way are available for anyone with either an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription, free to play from now until the 11th of August at 11:59 pm PDT.

The Elder Scrolls Online is free for everyone though (whether you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription or not) until the 19th of August, so you can safely save that one for last if you can’t decide which title to try first.

As they specified, you can snag the downloads regardless of which Xbox system you own. Assumedly this doesn’t include the now defunct Xbox 360 Marketplace, which officially closed down on the 29th of July last month.

Bassmaster Fishing is, as the name implies, a fishing game. It’s pretty well reviewed as far as fishing games go, but I’m sure if that’s a genre you enjoy then I probably shouldn’t waste my digital breath selling you on it.

The Elder Scrolls Online is Bethesda’s take on a MMO set in the world of Tamriel. That’s a fancy way of saying “it’s Skyrim, but you can play it online”.

It does have an optional paid subscription on top of the base game, but it is not necessary for those jumping into the game during the Free Play Days promotion. You’ll easily get enough content out of the game before the 19th.

Make Way is the real star of the show though. For those unfamiliar, it’s a top-down racer with both online and offline multiplayer.

The hook here is that Make Way allows players to design and build the maps they race on, and the developers clearly want to inspire players to build the most evil courses imaginable. It’s a fun little title, especially if you have mates to play it with.

It's time for another round of Xbox Free Play Days courtesy of Microsoft. This weekend, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Game Pass Core members are able to jump into two games for no extra charge, they are Bassmaster Fishing and Make Way. At the same time, a special The Elder Scrolls Online free to play offer has kicked off, and it doesn't require any sort of subscription to jump in.

The Elder Scrolls Online comes from ZeniMax Online Studios. The massive multiplayer online RPG has you exploring the lands of Tamriel, from the iconic Bethesda universe, to take down its beasts, conquer its dungeons, and follow all-new storylines. All Xbox players, regardless of Game Pass subscription status, can jump into the MMORPG until 10 am ET on August 19 as part of this special promotion.

Next, Bassmaster Fishing offers competitive big bass fishing complete with fully licensed content. You'll be competing in the Elite tour across 8 different real-world venues while climbing ranks and earning sponsors. There's even multiplayer modes to try out for competitive fishing.

Lastly, Make Way is a top-down racing game focused on multiplayer, inspired by classic racers from the past. The twist is that right before racing, each player gets to build the track in real time, adding loops, hazards, power-ups, barriers, and much more to make every race a unique experience.

As usual, any progress made during the free weekend event will carry over to the full game when purchasing a copy. Here are store pages for each game, and they are all having major discounts right now too:

The next Free Play Days event, with another slate of fresh games, will begin on August 15. Keep in mind that Bassmaster Fishing and Make Way offers both require an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate membership, while The Elder Scrolls Online does not.

All the titles are available right now, so make sure to check out the available titles before the Free Play Days promotion ends.
