Angelina Jolie is, perhaps, the ultimate Hollywood actress: Dignified in speech with a Hellenic beauty, but with an underlying pathos that evokes Louise Brooks, Pauline Starke, and Marilyn Monroe. Her performance in the Pablo Larraín-directed Maria Callas biopic—which Vogue’s Radhika Seth described as her greatest of all time and won her an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival—has seen her become an avatar for a resplendent strain of old-world composure otherwise lost to time.

“I chose not to copy [Maria’s] looks because they are hers, and her Venice carpets were stunning, so I gave a little nod to her—in a different way,” Jolie last week told Vogue of her own wardrobe. “But I made sure to wear something ladylike in her honor.” The actress spent most of her time dressed in Saint Laurent and Tom Ford dresses with Grecian-style sleeves that served as a subtle homage to the American-Greek soprano, before later wearing a knitted column at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado cut from the most luxurious shade of cashmere with Roger Vivier’s buckled City pumps.

Blanket dressing can be as polished and decadent and sumptuous as a stole-topped Tamara Ralph gown—the draped chiffon number that Jolie this weekend wore to the premiere of Maria—but there’s perhaps something more vulnerable about the desire to swaddle oneself in ultra-soft yarns. It reminds me of Callas’s own relationship to clothing, which continues to inspire. “An armor,” as Vogue’s Liam Hess noted in an interview with Jolie, “that allowed her to step out into an at-times hostile world.”

We don't call Angelina Jolie the queen of neutrals for nothing. From simple white T-shirts to camel coats and black separates, rarely do we ever see the actress leave the house wearing anything that's not in a muted color palette. And while black, white, and beige have always been her go-tos, yesterday, she discovered a new neutral to add to the mix.

Over the weekend, Jolie touched down at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado and was spotted wearing a sumptuous sweater dress in a luxurious shade of greige. For those who aren't aware, greige—not quite beige, not quite grey—falls somewhere in between the two hues, and by the looks of Jolie's cashmere dress, it's the perfect color for fall.

The Oscar winner teamed her knitted maxi, which featured long, flared sleeves and a scooped neckline, with oversized black sunglasses and a pair of Roger Vivier's buckled City pumps in tan. For a pop of color, Jolie painted her nails red and added a swipe of pink lipstick. Meanwhile, her blonde-highlighted hair was styled straight seemingly as a result of a glossy blowout.

This isn't the first time Jolie dressed for fall this week. Just a few days ago, she landed in Venice ready to promote her new movie, Maria, wearing a trench coat with knee-high boots, and after that, she skipped autumn altogether and went straight to winter with her red carpet look at the world premiere of the film. For the occasion, she opted for a champagne-colored Tamara Ralph gown complete with an off-the-shoulder faux-fur shrug.

Whenever I need a dose of refined style inspiration, Angelina Jolie is my go-to muse. Known for cultivating a chic aesthetic, the actor and philanthropist consistently shines in sleek monochrome outfits that embrace comfort whilst exuding sophistication. Her preference for minimalist designs in understated hues allows her to maintain a classic silhouette that never goes out of style.

This week, as she graced the Venice Film Festival, Jolie continued to showcase her signature elegance with a series of stunning floor-length gowns. However, what caught my eye were the subtle yet striking autumn colour trends that have quietly made their way into her wardrobe rotation. Sophisticated yet on-trend, Jolie's recent looks have inspired me to rethink my own autumn wardrobe.

Keep reading to discover the three seasonal shades that Jolie is already embracing.

Style Notes: For its luxurious quality and depth of tone, the chocolate-brown colour trend is a firm favourite amongst fashion people for autumn. Incorporating it with a pretty draped dress, Jolie nodded to the growing colour trend in a low-key way this week. Opt for it in place of black for a striking yet wearable base which is perfect for styling across the cooler months.

Style Notes: A more wearable alternative to bright white, beige tones bring a fresh element to an outfit without the need for colour. Styling a beige dress with a bright red lip, Jolie kept her signature sophisticated style intact on the Venice Film Festival red carpet this week.

Style Notes: It's no secret that black is one of Jolie's favourite colours to wear, so I wasn't surprised to see it feature in one of her red carpet looks this week. Wearing a sweeping black dress with a small leopard broach, she proved that black will always be a wardrobe non-negotiable, particularly during the colder months.
