Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz’s love language? Movies. The couple, who first started dating in 2021 following Kravitz’s divorce from Karl Glusman, have a shared passion for cinema, which Tatum revealed during a recent interview on the Wednesday, August 21, episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers.
While Kravitz might not be the adventurous type, Tatum revealed that she's all about movies. “On a day off for us, we watch, like, three or four movies in a day,” he said. “We just love it.”
[Tatum, 44, revealed that his fiancée warned him that she didn’t have a lot of non-cinematic hobbies when they first started dating. “She’s obsessed with stories in movies — specifically movies,” he said. “Like, we don’t do very much other than just watch movies. To get to be around someone that is so in love with it, that it consumes their whole life… It is who they are. This isn’t just like, ‘Oh, I want to see if I can direct a movie.’ This has always been the plan.”](https://people.com/channing-tatum-zoe-kravitz-favorite-movies-8698296)
He added that while Kravitz, 35, may have never explicitly announced a desire to become a director, her love of movies made her path into directing a natural one. “I don’t even know if it was a plan. I think it was just something that she had to admit — that this is always what she was supposed to do. Because she loves it that much,” said Tatum.
Tatum stars in Kravitz’s directorial debut, Blink Twice, which follows billionaire tech mogul Slater King (Tatum), who invites cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) to a seemingly nonstop island party. Frida soon discovers that not everything is as it seems when her best friend Jess (Alia Shawkat) disappears and no one can recall meeting her.
Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum co-wrote the film, which features a star-studded cast including Christian Slater, Haley Joel Osment, Simon Rex, Geena Davis, Kyle MacLachlan, and Adria Arjona.
While many directors might find the experience overwhelming, Kravitz embraced the challenges of directing her first feature. “I knew it was going to be hard, but not that hard,” she said. “It’s so, so hard and I felt the need to stay creative in a crisis, because it’s almost all solutions — because everything is constantly going wrong. And sometimes when things aren’t going the way they’re supposed to, you can get upset and then you shut down and then you’re just not open-hearted and you’re not creative.”
Despite the challenges, Kravitz believes that her directing journey has been filled with valuable lessons. “I did find that when things did go wrong, if you stay creative and engaged, it’s almost always leading you towards what actually was always meant to be.”
Tatum said that he had a chance encounter with Kravitz’s friend, Riley Keough, who introduced them “kind of out of nowhere” so Kravitz could send him the Blink Twice script. Tatum found himself instantly impressed with Kravitz’s script. “Even the first script that I got that I read, I knew that it was wildly bold and taking some of the biggest swings that I’ve ever seen,” Tatum gushed.
Tatum’s praise of his fiancée’s work isn’t limited to just her script. He admires Kravitz’s artistic journey and the strength she displays both on and off the set. “Creating is our, like, love language,” he said during an August 12 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Like, we really just enjoy that. I didn’t have any fear going into making a movie with somebody that you’re — you know, is the love of your life.”
Kravitz reciprocated her feelings for Tatum during the August 8 Los Angeles premiere of Blink Twice, sharing a heartfelt speech about her love for him and the support he provided throughout the film’s production.
“From producing to performing to pep talks to holding my head or my feet while I cried on the bathroom floor because I thought I f–ked it all up, thank you for letting me be a complete OCD psychopath, control freak,” Kravitz said, addressing Tatum. “Thank you for your patience, making this film with you has been an awfully great adventure. Thank you for trusting me to ‘female direct’ you. It’s really very cool to get to make a movie but when you get to do it with the love of your life, it’s even cooler.”
Blink Twice is in theaters now, giving audiences the chance to see the fruition of Kravitz’s directorial dreams.
