The peaceful death has occurred at his home of Connie Maguire, Lismonaghan, Letterkenny (F92 P9DT), formerly of Glen Road, Glenties and ESB. He will be forever loved and missed by his heartbroken wife Ursula (née Crawford) and his daughters Michelle Yeates, Caroline Spillane and Joanne Cahill, his sons-in-law, Kevin, Tony and John, his brothers Dom, Gerard, Enda, Patrick, Brendan and sisters Dolores Garden, Dympna Wordie, Colette Devine and Rosie Whelehan, his sisters-in-law, Fay, Elaine, Christine and Patricia, brothers-in-law Billy, Graham, Kevin and David, and Mary and Paul Kennedy and Gerard Luttrell. Beloved grandfather of Emily, Michael, Rory, Rachel and Orla. Deeply regretted by his family, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues in the ESB and St Eunan’s GAA Club, Letterkenny.

Connie Maguire’s life was deeply intertwined with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). His passion for the sport was evident from a young age, and he dedicated countless hours to both playing and supporting his local clubs. He was a prominent figure in both Naomh Conaill and St Eunan’s, leaving an indelible mark on the GAA community in Donegal.
Early Years at Naomh Conaill
Maguire’s journey with GAA began in Glenties, where he represented Naomh Conaill. He was a key player in the club’s success, contributing to a minor championship win in 1962 and a junior championship victory in 1964. His dedication and skill on the field were instrumental in the team’s rise to prominence. In 1965, Maguire was part of the Naomh Conaill senior team that reached the Donegal county final, showcasing his talent and commitment at the highest level of county GAA.
St Eunan’s GAA Club Member
After relocating from Glenties to Letterkenny, Maguire embarked on an apprenticeship with the ESB. It was in Letterkenny that he became actively involved with St Eunan’s GAA Club. He seamlessly integrated into the club’s culture, becoming a beloved and respected member. His dedication and passion for the sport continued to shine, enriching the lives of those who knew him.
A Legacy of Sport and Family
Connie Maguire’s life was a testament to the power of community, family, and passion. He left an enduring legacy on the GAA community in Donegal, particularly within Naomh Conaill and St Eunan’s GAA clubs. His unwavering dedication to the sport and his warm, engaging personality endeared him to many.
Beyond the GAA, Maguire was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his source of strength and joy. He was a loving and supportive presence in their lives, nurturing their growth and sharing countless cherished moments. His passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
A Life Remembered
The GAA community in Donegal is united in grief at the loss of Connie Maguire. His contributions to the sport and his warm personality will forever be remembered. His legacy as a dedicated clubman and loving family member will live on, inspiring future generations to embrace the values of sportsmanship, community, and family.
His funeral will take place on Saturday, September 14, with Requiem Mass at 11am at St Eunan’s Cathedral. The service will be live-streamed on www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny, followed by burial in Conwal Cemetery.
