The red carpet felt more sophisticated than it has in years. Maybe it’s just that it came so soon after the MTV Video Music Awards, but this year’s Emmy Awards red carpet felt surprisingly toned down. The best looks at the 2024 Emmys didn’t scream “Look at me!” so much as gently murmur, “Haven’t you noticed how chic I am?” in an elegant sort of stage whisper. After years of over-the-top red-carpet fashion moments, this more pared-back approach felt like a sea change. Our favorite moments at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards all involved stars who, despite the new emphasis on quieter glamour, still brought their own personalities to their fashion choices—like Greta Lee in an angelic white Loewe gown, or Ayo Edebiri in a custom Bottega dress with a leg slit. Read on to see them all.
Edebiri ramped up the glamour in custom Bottega Veneta and a megawatt smile. Lee loves an off-kilter red carpet look, and she’s a dedicated wearer of Loewe, so it was no surprise to see her in this ethereal white dress from the brand.
Rudolph's SNL bit acknowledging the show's 50th anniversary was a highlight (we could listen to her say ROBBED all day) and so was this mauve ruffled look by designer of the moment, Chemena Kamali's Chloé. Watts looked right out of Old Hollywood in this emerald dress from Balenciaga (a brand that has very much embraced new Hollywood).
Without the pearl overlay, this Armani column gown would still be very pretty, but the pearls take it to the next level. If you ask Siri to show you a picture of va va voom, she’ll turn up this look from Tamara Ralph couture. She was completely timeless in this Ralph Lauren dress with a glittery halter neckline.
Two-piece dresses with exposed midriffs seem to be a trend on this year’s red carpet, but only Nicolas Ghesquière could create a version as sophisticated as this custom Louis Vuitton number. Paulson always brings an arty edge to her red-carpet appearances, and this custom Prada look in cobalt and graphic black and white fit her playbook perfectly.
The only thing sparklier than her Oscar de la Renta gown? Her many Tiffany diamonds. Not everyone could pull off this lilac color, but it’s perfect on Thomas—especially paired with blush-colored opera gloves and slingback heels from Sauvereign. This rose-colored Louis Vuitton gown instantly erased the memory of every bad fashion choice her frazzled Hacks character has ever made.
It's hard enough to get dressed for work when you’re a nursing mother, let alone for the Emmys. Erskine gave birth to her second child this summer and joked around about breast milk on the red carpet, but she still looked pulled together and peaceful in this Rodarte dress. There’s something so sweet and wholesome about this custom Chanel dress. In her pink McQueen suit with a pussy-bow blouse, Meryl Streep was definitely having more fun than anyone.
Emmy Awards After Parties: Burgers, Selfies, and Birthday Celebrations
The Emmys weren't just about awards and red carpets, they were also about the after-parties. The mood after the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards was celebratory, so stars kept that party vibe going long into the night at the afterparties hosted by Netflix, HBO, Apple TV+ and more. See the most fun photos inside the parties — not to mention the afterparty outfits, silly selfies and burger breaks — inside the Emmys 2024 afterparties.
Emmy Awards After Parties: A Look at the Festivities
After big wins for Shōgun, Baby Reindeer and The Bear, industry professionals — from actors to reps, executives to behind-the-scenes talent — gathered at various celebrations following the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. While the after-party list has changed throughout the past several years — due to union strikes, the pandemic and economic factors (like mergers and cost-cutting efforts) — expect the standard fare, like Netflix, HBO and Apple TV+’s post-ceremony bashes, as well as the Governors Ball. There’s also Disney’s event, held at a new downtown venue this year.
Leading up to the awards show, there were soirées from agencies WME, UTA and Gersh, as well as fetes from SAG-AFTRA, FX and the Motion Picture & Television Fund. Scroll through the gallery below to see a selection of images from the festivities.
Emmy Awards After Parties: Fashion
The after-parties provided an opportunity for stars to shed their red-carpet looks and embrace more relaxed styles. Some stars changed into different gowns, while others opted for casual attire, highlighting the after-party's more laid-back atmosphere.
Emmys 2024: The Men’s Fashion Standouts
Menswear is often an afterthought in Hollywood awards’ best-dressed lists. But on an Emmys red carpet heavy with demure, sophisticated gowns, it was the male attendees who shone at LA’s Peacock Theater on Sunday in a range of bold, adventurous and considered outfits. This isn’t to say that classic looks were misses. Ramy Youssef, Joshua Jackson, “Fargo” actor Lamorne Morris and “The Bear” star (and Calvin Klein underwear model) Jeremy Allen White all looked predictably suave in no-frills tuxes. However, some of the most successful ensembles of the night subtly (and sometimes not-so-subtly) played on the codes of black-tie convention.
Irish actor Andrew Scott, for instance, swapped a traditional white button-up and bow tie for a low-cut ruffled black shirt beneath a wide-lapeled Vivienne Westwood jacket. “Abbott Elementary” actor Tyler James Williams’ Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo shirt, meanwhile, might have been considered classic cocktail wear — were it not for the fact it had no sleeves. Williams’ co-star Chris Perfetti also went for ruffles, pairing his wide-legged, floor-length pants with a flamboyant shirt from Christian Siriano’s Spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection. The awards’ co-host Dan Levy similarly looked to the runways for his shirt choice, opting for a sleek Loewe design with a structured, sculptural collar.
Attendees had fun with cummerbunds, too. While the waist sashes are normally markers of formality, “The Traitors” actor Alan Cumming’s became a train that emerged from his cream Teddy Vonranson jacket and doubled up as a scarf. “Fellow Travelers” co-stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey meanwhile used cummerbunds to elevate their outfits, with the latter’s complimenting the silky, chest-bearing shirt of his Giorgio Armani outfit. The night’s other fun accessories included lapel pins and brooches, while eye-catching colors proved another way to make a statement. “Fallout” star Aaron Moten arrived in an all-red Kenzo suit with a Nehru collar; Bowen Yang, nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actor for “Saturday Night Live,” wore a cream Bode suit jacket over a bright red tasseled top; and “True Detective” actor Finn Bennett ditched a jacket in favor of a silk maroon Saint Laurent mockneck.
