Heinz has been launching some weird and wonderful products of late — from a Monster Munch Mayo, to Spaghetti Carbonara in a tin which was slammed as an ‘abomination’. And the brand’s latest offering has also caused somewhat of a stir online, as it puts a seasonal twist on the most iconic of all the Heinz goods.
Shoppers have spotted tins of Heinz Beanz Pigs In Blankets (with Christmas Seasoning) on supermarket shelves and it’s fair to say the product — which is made with Richmond sausages — has well and truly divided fans.
Naturally some people cannot wait to give it a try, thinking that it sounds ‘lush’, while a few controversially said they’d consider adding it to their Christmas dinner… On Reddit’s r/CasualUK forum the festive tin of baked beans was described as being ‘peak Britishness’.
In response to the post, u/fezzuk admitted: ‘Honestly I’m tempted.’ As was u/LoisTano who thought the beans would make a nice addition to their ‘post-Christmas sandwiches’. u/dramallama-IDST posted: ‘Curiosity will get the better of me and I’ll try this at least once regardless of my expectations.’ And u/TemptressAngel08 was in agreement that they ‘looked interesting’.
However, not everyone was quite so thrilled by the prospect of trying the seasonal beans. A user known as u/miguelitaraton thought: ‘The “Christmas seasoning” is especially troubling…’ While u/Discopants180 wrote: ‘Heinz were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, that they didn’t stop to think if they should.’ Similarly u/MrLuchador proclaimed: ‘Our science has gone too far.’ And u/jaimeleblues added that they thought it sounded: ‘Gross. Utterly gross.’
One commenter, u/Exotic-Astronaut6662 responded to say they’d actually already tried the Pigs In Blankets Beanz and gave their verdict.
‘I bought a tin from Sainsbury’s in the interest of science, tasted ok, not sure what the Christmas seasoning was, possibly a slight taste of stuffing. There were 4 or 5 sausages about 0.0278 fathoms in length.’
It’s not known how long the limited-edition product will be around for, but tins are being sold on the Heinz website for £2.50 for a 400g tin.
The product description reads: ‘Jingle All the Way Need proof that Santa got your wish list? Well here it is! Beanz, pigs in blankets, and Christmas seasoning all in one can. No need to wait for the big day. Crack them open for a taste of Christmas on your toast.’
The 'Christmas Seasoning' Divides Fans
Heinz, who also make soup, salad cream and tomato ketchup, are famous for their baked beans in tomato sauce, which now has a range of flavours on offer from original, reduced salt and sugar to BBQ, Tikka and Jalfrezi varieties. However, its latest seasonal addition to the range has shocked customers – Beans with Pigs in Blankets.
Heinz website describes the flavour saying: “Jingle All the Way. Need proof that Santa got your wish list? Well here it is! Beanz, pigs in blankets, and Christmas seasoning all in one can.
“No need to wait for the big day. Crack them open for a taste of Christmas on your toast.”
Each 400g tin contains 426 calories and 18.4g of fat, and is available in Sainsbury’s for just £1.50 or from the Heinz website for £2.50.
However, beans fans weren’t too sure about the new concoction with one calling the flavour ‘criminal’ while another told the company they’d ‘gaarn too far’. But others couldn’t wait to try the flavour with one social media user writing: “Get in my belly. Christmas just came early.” Another simply said: “Yum.”
Heinz's 'Upside Down' Tin Aims To Solve A Baked Bean Problem
Recently, Heinz was praised for another simple yet ‘life-changing’ product it introduced, the Beanz Meanz Upside Down can, designed to help the beans ‘slip out with ease’ when opened. The ring-pull tins feature upside down labels, designed to encourage people to naturally store them ‘ring pull side down’ in their cupboards. Storing it this way ensures the beloved beans slip out with ease.
The launch comes after research shows 87 per cent of customers go to great lengths to get the last bean. Food scientist, Professor Charles Spence advised storing the tin upside down to ensure the beans in their delicious, rich, thick sauce settle at the bottom of the tin, making them easier to pour out.
Heinz's Latest Innovation: A Masterstroke or Marketing Mishap?
Heinz has been known to push boundaries with its products, but this latest offering has sparked debate. Some see it as a fun and quirky addition to the holiday season, while others are left scratching their heads, wondering if it's a step too far. Only time will tell whether Heinz Beanz Pigs In Blankets will become a Christmas classic or a fleeting fad. The jury, it seems, is still out on this one.
