LOVE Island fans have been left furious after spotting a clue Joey's apology to Mimii was 'fake'.
Joey Essex had brought up his 'secret mission' with Mimii once again which didn't go down well with her and Josh.
The former TOWIE star had told the group previously how the mental health nurse got him to bring Ayo to the terrace for a chat, which left Josh demanding answers.
Despite appearing to have settled the argument, Joey mentioned it once again in this week's awkward talent competition.
But during tonight's instalment the 33-year-old apologised to Josh - before going to speak to Mimii.
Joey told her: "You know I want the best for you, innit," before she clapped back: "Act like it then."
Mimii then said: "Joey we don't have to have this conversation because I don't feel like having it."
Joey reassured the mental health nurse that it was now 'dropped' but in an another attempt to smooth things over.
However, she replied: "I just don't appreciate the disrespected again and again and again."
The exchange left Love Island fans reeling on social media as they pointed out how Joey didn't appear to actually say 'sorry'.
A second wrote: "Sorry Joey didn’t even apologise. That whole spectacle has producers written all over it."
"Joey not once said sorry, not one time," said a third.
While a fourth commented: "Joey... How to make an apology without actually saying sorry."
The Fallout of a Secret Mission
The tension between Mimii and Joey began during a talent show where Joey was tasked with performing a rap. The lyrics were clearly targeted toward Josh. In the rap, Joey was essentially mocking Josh’s insecurities over his relationship with Mimii.
But why the tension between these two? Joey was chosen by Mimii to carry out a “secret mission.” Mimii's goal was to privately speak to Ayo on the terrace. She asked Joey to carry out this mission. She wanted to get this task done quickly so she could move on. But Joey made the mission public, which led to Josh questioning his partner Mimii.
The Love Island Legacy of Joey Essex
Joey has always been a controversial character on Love Island. He has a history of causing drama, and this season has been no different.
While Joey has been known for his light-hearted personality, his constant questioning of Mimii and his persistence on bringing up Ayo, created an uneasy feeling among fans. The accusations of “bullying” towards Mimii reached the point where fans complained to the broadcasting regulator Ofcom. Ultimately, viewers perceived this as a toxic environment.
It appears that some fans view Joey’s behaviour as a direct reflection of the show’s producers. The show's producers have often been accused of manipulating storylines and relationships between islanders in order to generate drama and boost ratings.
Joey’s behaviour may be a contributing factor to this perception, as it’s highly likely he is being used to stoke the flames of drama in the villa.
Joey's Apology Falls Flat
It’s quite clear that Joey’s attempt to “apologize” to Mimii was perceived as a tactic to save face, rather than a sincere apology. Mimii did not accept this attempt, and the audience quickly saw through the facade. This incident is likely to continue to fuel the drama surrounding the couple. While it might seem like a small incident, it's a reflection of the deeper issues that exist within the reality television landscape.
A Love Island Wrap Up
Love Island viewers are left wondering whether the relationship between Mimii and Josh can survive the drama. Fans will be watching closely to see how this relationship plays out. It will be interesting to see how this incident unfolds, especially now that the series is coming to an end.
The final episode airs on Monday 29 June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
