Manchester United's Onana Makes Double Save: Will They Win After Eriksen Goal?
United have been slightly fortunate. [For the goal, it's] good awareness from Zirkzee and it's a perfect lay off for Eriksen, who's got great technique. You fancy him to score from there and he doesn't disappoint.
Erik ten Hag is not a defensive coach. He likes to play the attacking style. However, he sets his team up to take the sting out of the game and hit them on the break. Manchester United need another goal to really kill the game off and silence the crowd.
If Fenerbahce take a little bit more risk in the second half, more of those opportunities will come for them. Manchester United didn't come here to dominate possession, but Erik ten Hag's game plan has worked perfectly.
Andre Onana's Double Save
The double save from Andre Onana was incredible. It's what goalkeepers do in training - they are up-and-down. We regularly do it in training, but that's part of their fitness. It is very rare that we put those saves together. Having the quality for two saves like that is something special.
Manuel Ugarte Shines
There have been quite a few doubts expressed over Manuel Ugarte since his £50m move from PSG but the Uruguayan has been superb so far. It is not just his outstanding block. He has also slotted into United's backline to deny Fenerbahce space and been industrious in partrolling the area in front of the visitors back four. A long way to go tonight but he has been really good.
A Look at Fenerbahçe's Frustration
You can see frustration creeping in for Fenerbahce. They have had the lions share of possession, but they have not really created that many opportunities. Manchester United have played good away counter-attacking football.
The Tension Continues
United scored a fine goal through Christian Eriksen, then did a good job in dampening down the atmosphere at the Şükrü Saracoğlu. And yet it’s taken two out-of-this-world interventions, first by Manuel Ugarte and then André Onana, to deny Dušan Tadić and Youssef En-Nesyri what looked like certain goals. All poised deliciously for an all-action second half!
The hosts get the ball rolling. It’s exactly one year to the day since United’s last win in European competition, that 1-0 Champions League victory over Copenhagen at Old Trafford.
Looking Ahead
Poor old Manchester United can’t do right for doing wrong. They’re handed a three-goal lesson at home by Tottenham Hotspur; United are in crisis and Erik ten Hag has only a couple of games to save his job. They secure staunch draws away at Porto and Aston Villa then follow it with an impressive if dry-blood-caked turnabout victory over Brentford; United are in crisis and Erik ten Hag has only a couple of games to save his job. It doesn’t seem to make much difference, which can’t be very fair, and what’s worse it’s beginning to get old. So shall we park all that for the next couple of hours? Yes, let’s. This MBM is officially a Crisis-Club Free Zone™, with kick-off at 8pm BST (though should United ship five in the first half we reserve the right to perform an ear-splitting screeching handbrake turn). It’s on!
