Toei Animation has announced that the One Piece anime will be taking a six-month hiatus starting today, October 13, and that it will return with new episodes from the Egghead arc in April 2025. In its place, fans will be able to look forward to a remastered version of One Piece's Fish-Man Island Saga and a special 25th anniversary episode.

Toei Animation announced the pause following One Piece's 1122nd episode, which will be its last new one for some time, while also revealing details of this new take on the Fish-Man Island Saga.

The One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga will run from October 27 of this year through March 30 of next year and a new episode will arrive each and every week. This re-edited version of the arc that first aired between 2011 and 2012 will be 21 episodes long and has "all scenes re-shot plus new animation sequences, including opening and ending themes - featuring a contemporary visual style and recorded in Dolby Atmos. "

The new opening will be called 'We Go!' and will be sung by Kitadani Hiroshi and "special guests." The ending theme will be called 'Sailing' (Episodic Version) and will be sung by BE:FIRST.

In addition to the Fish-Man Island Saga, fans will also be treated to 'One Piece Fan Letter,' which will be released on October 20 and is a 25th anniversary episode celebrating everything One Piece.

"This 30-minute ensemble drama depicts the reunion of the Straw Hats crew from the perspective of non-pirate characters," the official description reads. "Set in the Sabaody Archipelago after the Paramount War, the story follows its protagonist, a young girl and admirer of Nami, as she sets off on a small adventure."

One Piece Takes a Break, But Not for Long

“One Piece,” the long running and iconic Japanese animation series, is to take a six-month hiatus, effective immediately.

Toei Animation, the company behind the show, said that the series will take a break after Sunday’s Episode 1122 and return in April 2025 with fresh episodes from the “Egghead Arc.”

No explanation for the abrupt break was offered in a written press statement, but at an online event, it was explained that the creators need to “recharge” themselves.

Having run for 25 years since its Japanese TV debut in 1999, the “One Piece” animated series is produced by Toei Animation and airs weekly. It is based on the best-selling manga (comic book) series created by Eiichiro Oda. The stories follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates to find the ultimate treasure, The One Piece, and become the Pirate King. There are currently 25 story arcs as well as 15 feature films, a slew of video games and a live-action adaptation with Netflix earlier this year.

Fish-Man Island Returns in a New Format

In place of the interrupted “Egghead Arc,” Toei Animation is putting out a revised version of one of the series’ early story arcs.

It has cut down the “Fish-Man Island Arc” and given it a new look and feel, that Toei Animation says will “bring a contemporary visual style and new animation sequences,” including new opening and ending themes. The new opening theme, “We Go!” by Kitadani Hiroshi, will include a special, yet-to-be announced guest collaboration. The ending theme, “Sailing” (TV version) by BE:FIRST, “adds an exciting new touch.” “Designed to capture the essence of this fan-favorite storyline in a concise format, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is set to captivate One Piece fans, worldwide, all over again!,” Toei Animation said in a statement.

An official synopsis reads: “The Straw Hats reunite at Sabaody! The promised day has arrived. The Straw Hats have made it back to Sabaody Archipelago after two arduous years of separation. In the very same place where they once lost to Pacifista, the Straw Hats have proven themselves to be stronger and ready to begin their journey to the New World. With the Thousand Sunny now equipped to travel underwater, the next stop is the Fish-Man Island."

One Piece’s 25th Anniversary

Additionally, on Sunday (Oct. 20), a special 25th anniversary episode will premiere, honoring One Piece’s enduring legacy with a 30-minute ensemble depicting the reunion of the Straw Hat crew from the perspective of the non-pirate characters. “Set in the Sabaody Archipelago after the Summit War, the story follows its protagonist, a young girl and admirer of Nami, as she sets off on a small adventure,” said Toei Animation.

One Piece Hiatus: Crunchyroll’s Streaming Plans

In North America, the special episode and the “Fish-Man Island” season can be seen on Crunchyroll, the streaming platform that is a joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. Both operations are subsidiaries of Tokyo-based Sony Group.

One Piece: Egghead Arc is promising to return to Luffy and the other Straw Hats on Dr. Vegapunk’s future island laboratory. They are currently trying to escape from the island while the Navy is closing in, and have tried to find the missing Dr. Vegapunk while all of this goes down. It’s gotten the attention of the entire world, and will be shaking up the franchise when it’s over as it’s the first real arc of the Final Saga for Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series. Lots of reasons to be ready for next April.

One Piece Hiatus: A Time for Preparation

One Piece has officially announced that following the premiere of Episode 1122 this past weekend, the anime is now going to go on a hiatus for nearly six months. Chief producer Ryuta Koike explained during a special live stream event announcing the news that One Piece will begin airing in a new time slot when the anime returns for new episodes beginning in April 2025. Which means that the anime will be going into a “charging period” while the team behind it all gets ready for the next phase of the Egghead Arc and beyond.

As Koike explained to fans, this hiatus will begin following the debut of the One Piece Fan Letter anime special airing on October 20th, the anime will be heading into a “charging period” until March 30th next year. Koike revealed that the time aside is so the team behind the anime can improve. Noting that as Eiichiro Oda’s original manga is getting more exciting with each new release, the anime team would “like to take this opportunity to make the anime even more powerful” when it starts to air its new episodes next April in its new time slot.

As for this new time slot, news about One Piece‘s new schedule will be revealed during Jump Festa 2025 later this December. It was also noted during the special live stream that the anime seems to be getting more “powerful” with its cinematic presentation for big scenes in a weekly anime (Shanks’ attack on Captain Kid being the example given), and this makes a lot of sense to be pointed out considering that the anime production has been keeping up with the demands for its weekly releases since the Wano Country arc back in 2018, and thus it eventually would lead to some level of the production needing to slow down.

The One Piece anime is going on break for quite a while, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be new episodes to watch. Airing in the meantime, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga will be a new remake of the original Fish-Man Island arc of the anime series. This is going to be a touched up and re-edited version of the arc with updated visuals, sound effects, and new material when needed. It’s going to be condensing the 58 episodes of the original run, and will be editing it into 21 episodes for its new run. It will then end when the anime is ready to return in full.

What to Expect After the Hiatus

Toei Animation has announced that the anime series One Piece will go on a hiatus following this weekend's release of Episode 1122. The series will return in April 2025 with fresh episodes from the Egghead arc. During the hiatus, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga, a special re-envisioned edition of the iconic arc, will begin streaming on Crunchyroll. These episodes will be available exclusively in select regions for one month before becoming accessible on other platforms worldwide.

The Straw Hats reunite at Sabaody! The promised day has arrived. The Straw Hats have made it back to the Sabaody Archipelago after two arduous years of separation. In the very same place where they once lost to Pacifista, the Straw Hats have proven themselves to be stronger and ready to begin their journey to the New World. With the Thousand Sunny now equipped to travel underwater, the next stop is the Fish-Man Island. One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is a special edited version of the original arc from One Piece, in an abridged 21-episode story with an enhanced contemporary visual look.

The series, based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates to find the ultimate treasure, The One Piece, and become the Pirate King. This long-running series continues to captivate fans around the world with its unique blend of action, humor, and heartfelt storytelling.

This special 21-episode cutdown will showcase the Fish-Man Island Arc with a fresh look and feel, bringing a contemporary visual style and new animation sequences, including opening and ending themes. The new opening theme, “We Go!” by Kitadani Hiroshi, will include a special guest collaboration to be announced soon, while the ending theme, “Sailing” (TV version) by BE:FIRST, adds an exciting new touch. Designed to capture the essence of this fan-favorite storyline in a concise format, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is set to captivate One Piece fans worldwide all over again!

On October 20, a special 25th Anniversary Episode of One Piece will also premiere on Crunchyroll, honoring the series' enduring legacy with a 30-minute ensemble depicting the reunion of the Straw Hat crew from the perspective of the non-pirate characters. Set in the Sabaody Archipelago after the Summit War, the story follows its protagonist, a young girl and admirer of Nami, as she sets off on a small adventure. Who says you're not going to get any more One Piece just because the regular anime series is going on hiatus? You'll still be drowning in One Piece! All on Crunchyroll!
