Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid confessed she felt ill during Monday's show. It comes after the ITV programme looked into how easy it was to buy zombie knives online. After the show's producer managed to buy five from several online retailers without providing ID at the point of purchase or delivery, Susanna was left stunned. Looking at the knives in the studio, she said: "It is absolutely gobsmacking that any of those weapons could be brought online, legally.
"It makes me feel sick, our producer brought them into the studio a little bit earlier, I felt ill just being in the presence of them." Speaking about the weapons, the GMB star told viewers that only two were going to be deemed illegal later this month. During the show, Susanna and Ed Balls spoke to Pooja Kanda, whose son Ronan was killed in a case of mistaken identity by a ninja sword, which is not included in the ban.
Speaking about the government not banning ninja swords, Poonja said: "Why do we need these types of weapons? why are we making them available? I can't find the reason. All I want is for these to be banned."
Monday saw Susanna return after a lengthy break away from her role on the ITV show. The 53-year-old announced back in July she would be away for the summer, as viewers saw a rotation of other hosts front the programme in her absence. Her comeback sparked a frenzy online as many were thrilled to see her back alongside her co-star. On Twitter, one person said: "Welcome back fabulous lovely Susanna Reid Good morning to everyone have a beautiful Happy Monday to all the presenters at GMB and have a wonderful lovely great day."
Another commented: "The A-Team is back!! Laura, The Weather Ed, and Susanna are on the desk!!! It’s gonna be a great week!!" Someone else tweeted: "Welcome back Susanna queen of the morning." "Welcome back Susanna. I hope the early alarm wasn't too painful," joked another. One viewer wrote: "It's nice to see both of you back." While another added: "Susanna's back finally."
Susanna Reid's Summer Break
Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid has told how she spent the summer break partying in Ibiza with her three sons. The teetotal presenter, 53, said she has been going to the Spanish isle for ten years and this time made the most of night outs with Sam, 21, Finn, 20, and Jack, 19. Susanna, who returns to the ITV breakfast show on Monday, said: “It was amazing to really enjoy it with my boys now they are old enough to go clubbing.” Susanna went on the wagon in 2018 after switching to a diet plan following a doctor’s warning. But she admitted in 2019 that going to Ibiza with TV pal Rob Rinder had seen a blip. She joked to then co-host Piers Morgan: “You couldn’t go to Ibiza and not just have a small glass of sherry to round off a nice meal.”
Susanna Reid Breaks Down On GMB Over Knife Crime
GMB presenter Susanna Reid choked back tears on her first day back on the ITV show following her summer break. The mum-of-three, 53, admitted she felt “sick” as she and co-anchor Ed Balls, 57, tackled an emotional interview today (September 2). Pooja Kanda spoke to the programme to campaign for Ninja swords to be included under the Government’s new zombie and machete surrender scheme. It came after 17-year-old thugs fatally stabbed her son Ronan, 16, with the weapon just yards from his Mount Road, Wolverhampton, home in 2022.
Ronan was stabbed to death after Pabjeet Veadhesa and Sukhman Shergill mistook him for his friend who owned money to Pabjeet. They saw Ronan leave the house where their intended victim lived and assumed he was the friend. The pair attacked Ronan from behind when he was walking back from his friend’s house. Sukhman carried the machete, but Pabjeet stabbed him twice with the sword. Prabjeet is serving a minimum term of 18 years, while Sukhman is serving a minimum of 16 years.
GMB producers bought a range of knives, like the one that killed Ronan, and they sat in a display cabinet during the interview. It was also pointed out that, when buying the knives, producers had not been asked to verify their ages. Susanna admitted: “It makes me feel sick. I feel sick just being in the presence of them.” His grieving mum said the impact of her son’s murder has “absolutely destroyed our family to pieces”.
“You [the killers] haven’t taken the lives of the individual, you have taken other lives with you. It has totally destroyed us. Absolutely destroyed us. But I will carry on campaigning because I believe that if someone had done that for me, my son would be here for me,” she said. Pooja’s eyes filled with tears as she explained how loved her son was after stories from his school friends.
“The other children told us stories about him. I was like: ‘Wow, that’s my son. And that proud moment I carry today about Ronan – Ronan is an amazing child,'” Pooja said. Susanna tried to control her emotions when she closed the GMB interview, saying: “That was so powerful, thank you so much. All credit to you and all power to you.
“I find it absolutely astounding,” she added.
Susanna Reid Faces Backlash From Viewers
Good Morning Britain presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were inundated with complaints from ITV viewers as they debated parents taking their children on holiday during term time. Susanna Reid returned to Good Morning Britain on Monday, September 2 after an extended break and was met with a mixed reception. The seasoned presenter, back on air following the summer recess, resumed her role beside Ed Balls in her first outing since July, sparking discussions about term-time holidays on this Monday's programme. She encountered some resistance from viewers when discussing the strict measures against taking children out of school during the semester. Critics took to social media to express their discontent, with comments featured in the Express highlighting the perceived irony of Reid's position given her own absence rate: "So funny, Susanna who can't manage an attendance rate of 50% shows mock outrage at kids taking a holiday".
Another viewer pondered over the relaxed attitudes of past decades: "Ffs! How did my generation ever survive? We used to have holidays in term time, no strict uniform, and the general rules were far less strict. How did we manage to survive in the grown up world? ". One story shared by a viewer resonated online: "As a child, I had multiple holidays during school time because I was in a single-parent household, and my mother couldn't afford to pay the extreme rates. Today I have 2 degrees and work as a Mental Health Professional, so it wasn't as damaging as #GMB are trying to portray." A fourth member of the audience firmly refuted Susanna's comments: "Simply untrue about kids missing some days of education impacting their earning potential. How very one size fits all of you.", reports the Mirror.
Yet another detractor took aim at the TV hosts: "Such an ignorant view! What about the mass home educated population who go on to thrive! Please do better! ". However, many fans expressed delight at Susanna's return, with one commenting: "So good to see Susanna back in her chair things should get back to normal now. I have not enjoyed the mix of presenters over the summer but should be a regular viewer again now! " Another supporter complimented her presentation: "Susanna looking gorgeous. So lush to have her back on hosting duties." Surprising viewers with news of her return, Susanna posted on Sunday: "ELLO SEPTEMBER! Back to your screens tomorrow (with @edballs) after an incredible summer - looking forward to seeing you all." She also gave a nod to her eventful summer break before stating her enthusiasm for returning to what she hailed as "Returning tomorrow to OFFICIALLY the BEST NEWS PROGRAMME @GMB thanks to @nationalrealitytvawards.", crediting the accolade to the @nationalrealitytvawards.
